Philippians 3:5-6 King James Version (KJV)
5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.
Philippians 3:5-6 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
5 circumcision on the eighth day! of the race of Israel! of the tribe of Benjamin! a Hebrew of Hebrews! according to law a Pharisee!
6 according to zeal persecuting the assembly! according to righteousness that is in law becoming blameless!
These are my thoughts, please share yours.
5 This is Paul telling what he had done, without Christ it truly meant nothing, many at this may have been seen Paul teaching about Christ have done the work for us and may have started to think who Paul to say this is. 8 days was the time Jews did this they still do it at 8 days old today, with the exception of it being on the Sabbath. Paul was born Jewish and raised Jewish and became successful within the Jewish community. The Pharisees were the most strict group of Jews of that time.
6 Paul also hated Christians and killed them, the faith he once tried to stop would later become his own, and he would be one of the men most used by the Lord. Paul was a big factor in bringing the gospel to the Gentiles. Paul may have obeyed the law but was still guilty of sin, blood of Christians were on his hands.
