Philippians 2:28-30 King James Version (KJV)
28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.
29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation:
30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
Philippians 2:28-30 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
28 The more eagerly, therefore, I did send him, that having seen him again ye may rejoice, and I may be the less sorrowful;
29 receive him, therefore, in the Lord, with all joy, and hold such in honour,
30 because on account of the work of the Christ he drew near to death, having hazarded the life that he might fill up your deficiency of service unto me.
These are my thoughts, please share yours.
28 Sometimes we have to send someone else to do something we want to but are unable, if Paul could have went He would have went himself but the Lord had him doing what He was called to do, even though Paul going would have helped it was not where the Lord wanted him, so for him to go there would have been wrong, but Paul knew that God had someone to go there because they had a need, Paul knew God would have met that need and he knew who He wanted to be sent and Paul did what he could do to make that happen. Paul knew that God would take care of them and by sending Epaphroditus; he was not worried about them.
29 Paul knew that he would do good for them but wanted to make sure they would treat him in the way he deserved to be treated. We are to welcome people with the love of Christ.
30 Paul knew that this man was special he put his life on the line for serving the Lord and would do whatever this church needed of him as long as he was treated well and put to good use, this man would have served the Lord if not received well would have went else where to serve the Lord.
