Isaiah 1:7-10 King James Version (KJV)
7 Your country is desolate, your cities are burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
9 Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, and we should have been like unto Gomorrah.
10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear unto the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
Isaiah 1:7-10
ACV 7 Your country is desolate. Your cities are burned with fire. Your land--strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers. 8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a booth in a vineyard, as a shed in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city. 9Unless LORD of hosts had left to us a {seed (LXX/NT)}, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like Gomorrah. 10 Hear the word of LORD, ye rulers of Sodom, give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.

7 They country had this happen because they rebelled against the Lord but it most likely had not happened as much as it would, but Isaiah is also talking about the people being in ruin because of their sin. Foreigners who they welcomed in rather then run them off as they were supposed to have as God commanded them, this was to not allow them to bring their gods in, which Israel turned to causing their biggest sin.
8 They no longer had God’s protection because they rejected His ways and laws they turned to the gods of this world rather then God who made the world, often times our faith is tested by where we turn when we are down and feel out.
9 God would spare those few that kept their faith in Him; the remaining would keep following their faith in the Lord even after the exile. Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of their lack of faith and the pride the found in their sin. Israel was choosing to live by their sin and proud of it rather then know that they need the Lord for change, we as Christians all have had to come to a point where we choose Christ rather then a life of pleasing our flesh and living for sin.
10 Jesus later also compares Israel in His time as people of Sodom, these cities were known because of them being destroyed because of their sin, it would happen to Jerusalem as well, the temple would be destroyed, this was something that they thought would or could never happen but it did because God allowed it to wake up His people.
